The PPGE and the GDE research group are holding the summer course "Model-based Macroeconomics"
Feb. 20-28, 2019, from 9h20 AM to 6 PM

The course is full-time with 60 hours allocated (4 créditos). Course time is distributed among lectures, laboratory training and students group activities and will be conducted in English and Portuguese.

Interested students must fill the application form providing a short cv and an abstract of the thesis or dissertation project.

Prof. Mario Possas, Prof Esther Dweck, Prof Maria Isabel Busato and Prof. Ítalo Pedro from  Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and invited professors: Prof. Andrea Roventini (Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pisa, Italy and Sciences Po, Nice, France), Prof. Marcelo Pereira (Instituto de Economia da UNICAMP) and Marco Antonio Freitas de Hollanda Cavalcanti (IPEA e PUC-Rio).

The course introduces and discusses the application of recent modelling methodologies in macroeconomics, namely dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) and agent-based (ABM) families of models. The course is focused in the latter family of models while still offering a comprehensive introduction to the former one. The two methodologies are presented in both theoretical and applied (lab) perspectives.  At the end of the course, the participant is expected (i) to understand the main concepts involving DSGE and ABM macroeconomic models, as well their limitations/advantages, (ii) to have a general perspective on the current literature of the field, and (iii) to master (at a basic level) the required computational tools to explore such models.
